Player killing and skull system

As a rule, killing other characters is legal on all game worlds of Tibia where player vs. player combat (PvP) is enabled. However, there are narrow limitations to make sure player killing does not get out of control. To this purpose kills are divided into two categories, in "good" kills, i.e. kills of marked characters, and in "bad" kills, i.e. kills of unmarked characters. A character may make any number of "good" kills, but it is not allowed to make too many "bad" kills within some limited periods of time. Please note that you also count as a killer of a character if you have inflicted the most damage of all attackers of this characters in the last 60 seconds but not finished him or her off. In this case you and the character that did the final strike will be recored as "good" or "bad" killer.

Death
Under normal circumstances if you die in Tibia then you will be penalized with the following:

  • You will lose the container which is your backpack or bag with all the items in it.
  • 10% from your total experience points. (With promotion 7%).
  • 10% chance of losing each equipped item.

However, if you were wearing an Amulet of Loss, then you will lose neither your backpack nor equipped items, but you will lose the Amulet of Loss. An Amulet of Loss can be bought from Eremo in Edron for 50k. You can go back to your body to retrieve your backpack and items if necessary. When you open your body, you will find all the items and the backpack which you have dropped during your death. Remember, if someone else reached your corpse before you, he will be able to get all the items.

If you were having a red skull, you will always drop all the equipped items and the backpack even if you were wearing an Amulet of Loss. There are two ways to reduce your death penalty. That is to get a promotion and get one or more blessings from the sacred temples

    Blessing
You can receive up to five blessings from five different sacred places in Tibia. Each blessing will reduce the death penalty by 1%. No other benefit is provided by these blessings. Since the death penalty for a normal player is 10%, after all the five blessings he will have a death penalty of 5%. If you are a promoted player with starting death penalty of 7%, after the five blessings your final death penalty will be 2%. However, one of the sacred temples is located in a premium only island. Therefore, the minimum death penalty a free account player can reach is 6%. After a death, the effect of blessing will no longer be effective. Therefore, you must receive all the blessings again to keep your death penalty at the reduced percentage.

    White skulls
A character marked by a white skull has recently attacked or killed an unmarked character. All players can see this mark. It will stay as long as the logout block is active. Getting attacked and damaging, attacking or killing other characters or monsters will not only extend the logout block but also keep the character marked. The white skull is just a temporary mark that shows other players that the marked character was aggressive in the last time.

Red skulls Characters who kill several unmarked characters within some periods of time will be marked by a red skull and have to face serious sanctions for their player killing. This happens when a character kills:
  • 3 or more unmarked characters in one day (24 hours)
  • 5 or more unmarked characters in one week (7 days)
  • 10 or more unmarked characters in one month (30 days).
As soon as a character reaches one of these three limits the character will be marked with a red skull for 30 days. Note that everytime one of these limits is reached again the red skull mark is reset to 30 days. Also, as an additional sanction a character marked with a red skull will drop all items in case of death, no matter if an "Amulett of Loss" is worn or not! This will encourage players to hunt and to punish the player killer. Excessive killing of characters who are not marked with a skull is a violation of the Tibia Rules. Therefore players who reach twice the amount of unjustified kills that are needed to get a red skull will be banished automatically for 15 days. Remember that too many banishments will result in the deletion of an account.

    Yellow skulls
This skull is somewhat special because it is not visible to all players on the screen. You will only see it if your own character is also marked with a skull. A yellow skull underneath a name indicates that this character has attacked or damaged you before you did attack or damage this character. This happens because you have the right to defend yourself. If you kill a character with a yellow skull the kill does not count as a "bad" kill as any other kill of a marked character.

    Geen skulls
Green skulls are another special case. A player marked with a green skull is also a member of the party you belong to. Like any other marked character you can attack or kill party members without any negative consequences. Parties are mainly designed for training and hunting in groups or to challenge another player to a duel.

Some words on "justice". Of course the automatic system has weaknesses. Players may try to abuse the protection offered by this system to provoke you in any conceivable way. Still, you should always think twice before attacking an unmarked character, no matter what he has done. You may have good excuses for attacking the character, but your fellow players may not accept them. It is not the goal of the marking rules to ensure justice but to handle most typical conflicts arising in the game in a fair and neutral way. All your kills will be automatically evaluated and logged. As has been said before, you are free to kill as many marked characters as you like. This is because your victims have either been aggressive towards unmarked characters (white and red skull), attacked you first (yellow skull) or because they have joined the same party as you out of their own free will (green skull).
